Pipe Schedule Interpretation
The schedule designation for steel pipes indicates the wall thickness relative to the outside diameter. Standard (Std) and Extra Strong (XS) are common designations, while Schedule numbers (e.g., 5S, 10S, 40, 80, 160) provide a more granular classification. A higher schedule number generally corresponds to a thicker wall, allowing the pipe to withstand higher internal pressures.
